What have I done? First thoughts of Ayutthaya, Thailand

When I was planning my trip to Thailand, I was so positive that I wanted a quiet, relaxing holiday instead of the booze-fest it easily could have been.

For that reason, I decided to spend my first few days in Ayutthaya before I meet my wonderful mother in Bangkok.

The journey to get here should have been my first hint.  It was easy and complicated all at the same time.  This wasn’t helped by the fact that I fell asleep on the mini bus thinking I had missed my stop (I hadn’t… Google Maps was just confused *phew*).

As soon as I got to Ayutthaya I felt it wasn’t for me.  It’s so quiet – exactly what I wanted – but not what my wandering mind needs!

Nonetheless, making lemons into gin and lemonade, I’m going to give this little village that was once the epicentre of the world a chance.

Temples and tut tuts here I come!
